If you ever get attacked by malware or have install get botched getting the core Windows files can be a pain. You don't need a support disk, have to reinstall windows, or download the file from some scary site that might be giving you malware. Just do this:

  1. Start | All Programs | Accessories
  2. Right click Command Prompt.
  3. Run as Administrator
  4. Type sfc /scannow
  5. Reboot.

The scan will take about ten minutes or so. After doing this, the Windows core files should work again. It will give a link to a log that might be helpful if sfc didn't work as expected.
